Decoding Plywood Grades

Choosing the right plywood can be overwhelming given the number of options available in the market. Here is a quick breakdown to help you make an informed decision.

1. MR Grade (Moisture Resistant)

Also known as Commercial Plywood, MR grade is suitable for indoor use like living room furniture, TV cabinets, and wardrobes. It can resist a certain degree of moisture but is not waterproof.

2. BWR & BWP Grade (Boiling Water Resistant/Proof)

These are the gold standard for areas exposed to water, such as kitchens and bathrooms. BWP plywood is treated with phenolic resins, making it highly durable and completely waterproof.

3. Marine Grade

Often confused with BWP, true Marine plywood is meant for extreme water exposure (like boat building) and is generally an overkill for standard home interiors.

Always check for ISI certifications when purchasing plywood to ensure you are getting authentic quality.
